Testimonies of Healing

I should like to express my gratitude...

From the October 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I should like to express my gratitude to God, to Mary Baker Eddy, and to our loving Christian Science practitioners for the many demonstrations we have had in our family. One instance, in particular, I should like to relate. At the rear of our yard was a large barn having a door weighing over two hundred pounds, and that ran on a trolley. This barn was old, and the door frequently ran off the trolley. My husband, with the aid of two or three men, would then have to lift it back again; and our little son had often watched him do this.

One day, when the child, who was at that time about eight years old, was playing in the backyard with two of his little friends, the door again came off the trolley, and these three little boys tried to lift it back. They managed to lift the door from the ground, but instead of slipping on to the trolley it swayed forward and fell, pinning our boy beneath it. Some men working near pulled him out from underneath the door, unconscious and with a great gash across his forehead. He was carried into the house and a Christian Science practitioner immediately called. He soon regained consciousness, but since he could not walk was put to bed, where he tossed to and fro. When I asked him to lie still he said he could not. He asked to be given the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and with it clasped tightly in his hands I left him and tried to realize the truth as best I might, for we were still young in Christian Science.

At first a feeling of resentment came to me that the door had not been repaired before; and then the thought came that I must keep my consciousness so clear that Truth could shine through and heal my little boy. After a short while I went back to him. He was lying perfectly still. As I came near he said: "Mamma, all of a sudden something gave the most awful click in my back, and now everything's all right. I want to get up." He got up, dressed himself, and walked across the floor. It was then we noticed the size of the gash in his forehead. We called the practitioner and asked if we should have it sewed. She said that if I felt that I wanted it I should have it done; so I took him to the doctor and requested that he merely bandage it with adhesive tape. The bandage was not removed until it came off, and the wound was healed. We have had many demonstrations such as the healing of frozen ears, rheumatism, abscessed ear, headache, blood poisoning, weak eyes; and the overcoming of financial difficulties. I also want to express my thanks for the periodicals and for the Christian Science Sunday Schools.—
