It is with a deep sense of gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me that I send this testimony. I first heard of it many years ago, when I was living in Lima, Peru, South America, where a friend who had experienced a wonderful healing told me about it, as I was drifting into a condition of semi-invalidism and continually suffering. It was not, however, so much the healing which first appealed to me when I had its teachings explained, as the beauty of the religion and its practical application to everyday life and its problems. I had been strictly brought up in the doctrines of the Church of England, but they no longer satisfied me; and when the different interpretation of God and of His love for His children was unfolded to me in this new religion, then I knew it was the truth for which I had been seeking.
Although I did not come to Christian Science primarily for healing, yet I have had many proofs that it does heal, and I should like to tell of my first experience. I had water on the knee, and was told to wear a rubber bandage, not to walk about much, and to use the knee as little as possible. I had started to attend services and read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and one day the thought came to me that I would put Christian Science to the proof and see if it could heal this condition; so I took off the bandage and walked about as usual. At first the knee swelled considerably, but I felt no fear and kept steadily to the thought that I would prove this healing truth. In a short time the condition disappeared, and I felt very grateful for this proof.
I was also healed of a severe attack of neuritis when it seemed as though I were losing the use of one arm; but the unreality of the condition was seen, and it completely disappeared overnight. Another healing is that of sick headaches, which held me in seeming bondage for many years and at times brought great discouragement. With the help and encouragement of loving practitioners, and through that "radical reliance on Truth" which we are told about in Science and Health (p. 167), I am thankful to state that this condition has also been overcome.
