Over thirteen years ago I had my first healing and took up the study of Christian Science. Previous to this I had suffered for a number of years from what is known in the medical profession as rheumatic blood poisoning. I was under medical treatment almost constantly, and at the end of five years the treatment failed to give me relief. Then I was at a clinic for almost two months, when the doctors informed me they could not cure me. I came home feeling quite discouraged, and for three or four years suffered intensely. During this time I was unable to walk without the use of crutches. Then I underwent a severe operation and for a few months felt much more comfortable; but suddenly the disease returned, and in a few days several of my joints were drawn out of shape. I was taken to the hospital again, but at the end of six weeks the doctor in attendance said I was beyond medical aid, that I would lose my hearing, sight, and power of speech, and that the disease would finally touch the brain.
I had decided before leaving home that if I did not get well while in the hospital I would try Christian Science. I did not know anything about it, but felt I was being divinely led to it and was quite confident I should get well. Needless to say, the doctor's verdict did not have any effect on me. I left the hospital, took my first Christian Science treatment on a Saturday, and in less than one week was able to walk to any place I wished to go.
It is a great joy to be able to walk again, but the mental change is far more wonderful. I am so grateful for the understanding of God and my relation to Him, and to know there is not the least particle of truth in discord of any kind, regardless of its seeming reality. Christian Science is such a wonderful help in solving the many problems that confront us, and there is nothing too small and nothing too complicated to be worked out harmoniously through the application of this Science.
