About twenty-one years ago my husband brought Christian Science into our home. He had been in a miserable physical condition for a number of years and had little hope, if any, of ever being any better, as medical means had brought no cure and very little relief. I shall never forget how sorry I was for him when he announced his intention to try Christian Science. It was difficult for me to believe that one possessing such intelligence and good common sense as he, could be intending to have anything to do with it, my impression being at that time that Christian Scientists were a body of religious fanatics —a badly deluded people. However, I did not interfere; and after one week's treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, he was completely healed.
Not long after the foregoing experience our little daughter was healed of a serious ear trouble, caused, the doctor said, by scarlet fever. Her healing came about through understanding I received while at a Christian Science lecture. Never shall I cease to be grateful to God for that event. For the first time it was revealed to me what Life is. It was brought out with such clarity that God is our Life, and that since God is perfect, good, and eternal, life coming from God must be likewise good, perfect, and eternal, being a part of Himself. It was so clear that when our little daughter's life appeared to me in this light of understanding, I saw without a shadow of doubt that she was not deaf and never had been. I saw with a great throb of joy that she was alive with this good and perfect life of God. Right where error seemed to be there was perfect Life, perfect Mind, perfect consciousness; and where such perfection was there could be no imperfection. No condition of matter could change, alter, or destroy this truth that had just been revealed to me. Nothing could ever make Life conscious of evil. The next morning the little one came downstairs and said, "Mama, I'm not deaf any more." Not only has the healing been permanent, but that child, a woman now, has hearing so good that many have been amazed, calling it abnormal hearing. On page 486 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, are these words: "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter,—hence their permanence."
Among the physical ills that have been completely wiped out in my experience and that of my family have been sciatica, rheumatism, chronic bowel trouble, chronic throat trouble, a serious eye disease, dating from childhood to middle age, dislocated ankle, ulceration of the stomach and mouth, worms, measles, constipation, and nervous headaches.
