Testimonies of Healing

In the year 1900 I left my native...

From the February 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the year 1900 I left my native state and friends and went to reside in the Rockies, my chief desire being to find health and greater peace of mind. Many years had been spent in searching for relief from extreme headaches, throat trouble, and general debility. I had been raised in an orthodox church, which I had revered and loved all my life. When I had lived in the mountains several years and the climate had failed to heal me, my attention was called to the fact that in Christian Science I could find healing. After a short period of time I inquired whether there was any literature on the subject, so that I might investigate it for myself.

As soon as I had read the blessed book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, a short time, it dawned upon me that the teaching found in this book was just what Jesus had taught. After requesting help from the practitioner who had first told me of Christian Science, I was healed of the headaches immediately. This meant much to me, for many beautiful sunny days I had spent in a darkened room, not being able to bear the light. Physical troubles gradually grew less as I continued my study of the Bible in connection with Science and Health; and with the help of loving practitioners and friends, I was much improved and finally healed.

Our home had another serious problem, and that was the use of intoxicants by my husband. He was hale and hearty, and a good businessman with that exception. Problems too numerous to mention were caused by this appetite for strong drink. The college town in which we lived had many lovely people, but also had sixteen open saloons. Many times in years past I had said, "I know not where or how, but I know God can and will heal my husband of this trouble;" for I had no faith in material remedies for such difficulties. After many attempts on his part to free himself from the habit, he at last asked help of a Christian Science practitioner who was a friend of ours. He was most beautifully healed in one treatment, and all desire for anything of the kind left him. I am thanking God now, and have been all down the years since, for prohibition, that others may be spared the heartaches and sorrows that these places —the saloons—bring to any community.
