That Christian Science heals disease and faults of character and satisfies our desires for a real understanding of Life, I have had ample proof in the last nineteen years. I am strong and well, and have been healed of the need for glasses and of deafness. After losing my hearing completely in one ear, and paying very little attention to it for some months because I could hear quite well with the other, I began to lose the hearing in the other ear also. Then I realized that I must adjust my thought about hearing, and began very earnestly to declare each day that hearing was not in matter to be lost; that, in fact, it was not mine to lose, since each day it was a gift from God, and was controlled by God. In a few days the whole difficulty disappeared, and I have since heard perfectly.
A similar healing occurred during the war. I was poisoned in the hands while doing some work on aeroplanes. The effect was very unsightly; but I accepted the necessity for suffering as part of the difficult conditions of the times, and so it was not healed. It became so much worse that I could not bear to look at my hands. Then I saw that all that was needed were God's ideas, created and sustained by Him, and consequently harmonious. The day on which I changed my thinking so radically I began with astonishment to watch the disfigurement disappear, and in five days the condition was entirely healed, after lasting for several months.
At another time, thinking the gas was out, I picked up a baking tin which was on a stove, and began to carry it across the room. I put it down quickly, and saw a burn across three of my finger tips. I at once denied the accident, and after the first surprised moment had no pain whatever. I was doing much fine work with my fingers at the time, but did not remember the incident until a week later, when I noticed a mark on the fingers showing where they had been burned.
