I was led to seek aid in Christian Science for many sicknesses, sorrows, and losses—of financial support, friends, and health—which had brought me into an almost helpless state. Added to this was the still more distressing fear for the safety and well-being of my three small children and my aged and feeble mother, who were dependent on me for support. But I never for one moment doubted my heavenly Father, and through it all I prayed long hours. I had been taught that sickness and sorrow were sent by God to make us better. At last, after many years of prayer for divine guidance, I was led to accept Christian Science. Oh, the joy and gratitude that were mine when those old beliefs about God and man fell away; and how free and glad I was, and am still, after over twenty-one years—growing more and more grateful every day!
I was healed in two weeks after beginning to read our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and with treatment from a loving practitioner. I was cured of a distressing eye disorder of over seventeen years' standing, oculists having told me I would be blind in a few months. That was over twenty years ago, I laid aside glasses in less than two weeks, and constantly worked with fancy work, teaching both school and music, and never failing to read some of the Christian Science literature as well as the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly every day. My eyes have never failed to do their part, and some, knowing how much I use them, have wondered.
I was also healed at that time of tumor of the stomach, and of cancer and paralysis of the bowels, which several physicians told me, just before I found Christian Science, would allow me only six or eight weeks to live. Besides these ills, lung trouble was added; but the Christ-healing made me "every whit whole." It is over twenty years since all these wonderful healings took place, for which daily and hourly I never cease to give grateful thanks to God.
