Many years ago, at a time of great need, through a dear aunt I came into Christian Science, after our family doctor had done the best he could for me. Since then I have experienced many healings through the application of this truth, one of which I should like to tell in the hope that it may help someone.
I was living in St. Louis, Missouri, and making my home with strangers when I became so ill with rheumatism that I had to lie flat on my back and was helpless. A Christian Science practitioner was called at once and work begun, but I was still unable to move and was in great pain. A cousin in a distant city, a practitioner, was then asked to take the case, and a Christian Science nurse was called to attend me. I knew that faithful work was being done, for I began to improve slowly. When I was able to walk a little, a relative in another city lovingly opened her home to me, and I had every care and comfort while this problem was being worked out. It was a lesson to me in patience and purification. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 454), "Patience must 'have her perfect work.'" Each time I received a letter from the practitioner it gave me new courage and strength. In less than three months I was able to go back to the position I held in St. Louis, being allowed to break into my work very gradually; which consideration on the part of the company I appreciated.
I was completely healed, and have every reason to be grateful for the loving help received at that time. It has meant much to me in a business way, and has given me a better understanding of God and man. I could never adequately express my gratitude to God and to our revered Leader for the blessings I have received, and for this truth which is blessing all mankind.—Washington, District of Columbia
