Testimonies of Healing

Deep gratitude for help received...

From the October 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Deep gratitude for help received from the testimonies given in our periodicals urges me to tell something of what Christian Science has done for me. It would be impossible to tell all that it has done and is doing. As a child I was never quite well, never very happy; nor did it seem natural for me to be good. Through the years my world was always awry, and no one could answer satisfactorily any of the many questions asked regarding the riddle of existence. No one could help me to know God, or give me a concept of Him that made the least appeal. That there was a cause, and that cause good, was instinctively felt and accepted. With this I had to be satisfied until lack of health and failure to receive healing from the several physicians employed, turned me to a friend who had become a student of Christian Science. Here my questions were answered.

As I found God, through such an entirely satisfying and comforting sense of a heavenly Father-Mother God, the physical healing became a secondary consideration. Little by little, as thought was spiritualized and daily life Christianized, the body became normal. The healing of extreme nervousness, of a condition that would ordinarily require a surgical operation, and of a generally weakened and discordant body, took place slowly. Now I would not have had it otherwise; because there might have been times, before I had experienced the joy of spiritual living, when I would have loitered by the way, content with the measure of good gained.

It has been with increasing interest, satisfaction, and gratitude that I have found the Bible teachings applicable to all phases of my existence. Paul's statement, "Ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you," brought much light; and faith in a full redemption came as I read farther, "But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you." Here was the way out of that which had caused so much rebellion, bitterness, resentment, and unhappiness, the belief that God made man mortal, and subject to evil conditions which he was more or less helpless to combat.
