I first learned of Christian Science through the healing of a brother, and the proof was so conclusive it convinced me that there must be some truth in it. Although I did not take up the study at once, I was no longer satisfied with the old way of thinking; and when, several years later, I found myself alone in a strange city, homesick and discouraged, like the prodigal son I said, "I will arise and go to my father; " and it was then that I turned to Christian Science for help and comfort.
The following Sunday I attended the services at the Christian Science church in that city, and I shall never forget the peace and joy that came over me; I indeed felt that I had found the "pearl of great price." Shortly afterward I purchased a Bible, a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and a Christian Science Quarterly, and commenced to study in earnest.
It was not long before I had an opportunity to prove that Christian Science, when rightly applied, does heal all our diseases. I was employed in a physician's office at the time. One day I became very ill with tonsillitis, so ill that I could hardly speak or hold up my head. I had suffered with this a great deal all my life, having three or four attacks a year, which sometimes lasted for four or five weeks and were followed by extreme lassitude. At this time I decided to turn to Christian Science, although the easiest way would have been to ask the doctor for help. He noticed that I was ill, but knowing that I was studying Christian Science he asked me if I wanted some help from him or if I wished to use my new remedy. I told him I would try Christian Science this time. He very kindly offered to take me to my home, and I permitted him to do so. My roommate called a practitioner for help, which was lovingly given. This was late in the afternoon. At ten o'clock I fell asleep and did not waken until morning, when I felt almost entirely free. I arose, dressed myself, ate breakfast, and appeared at the office at the usual time, much to the astonishment of the physician. This was certainly a revelation; for, although I felt sure that Christian Science would heal me, I had not thought the healing would come about so quickly.
