Over twenty years ago I was led...

From the October 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Over twenty years ago I was led into Christian Science through the passing on of a niece who had begged for Christian Science treatment, but was refused it because this religion was not understood. An operation was performed from which she never regained consciousness. After the funeral my sister and I journeyed to the city to find what this religion was that had appealed to her daughter as a help in sickness. It is needless to say we found out, purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and other of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and came home to study.

My first demonstration was over croup. I had destroyed the croup medicine, and when that croupy sound came to my ears at midnight I trembled all over. Nevertheless, I took the child and my textbook and sat down to read. Not over twenty minutes had passed when the little girl looked up and asked for something to eat. We both ate heartily, then went back to bed and to sleep. That was her last attack of croup.

When only ten months old our younger daughter was healed of an abscess on her neck. The practitioner was faithful, and a Christian Science neighbor quieted our fears. The baby did not seem to suffer, slept well every night, and the day the abscess broke she was playing on the couch. In less than an hour all that was left was loose skin with a slit in it, as though it had been cut with a knife.
