Testimonies of Healing

Before I accepted the teachings...

From the April 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before I accepted the teachings of Christian Science I had undergone several operations and had been told that I would always be frail and delicate and that I should never consider any strenuous activity. With the turning of my affections toward the things of Spirit my body grew rapidly stronger and my household tasks were accomplished with greater ease. Long motor journeys were undertaken in which I shared equally with my companion in the driving of a heavy car, and fatigue and weariness were overcome with almost no effort. An infection of the foot, boils, a burn on the hand, and two slight attacks of fever were beautifully and quickly met. My three children were placed in the Sunday school. Scarlet fever, measles, and other so-called children's diseases were overcome by the loving ministrations of practitioners.

My youngest daughter had a severe attack of ivy poisoning. Faithful work seemed to bring no healing results and a practitioner was called. The symptoms grew more aggravated. When on the seventh day the practitioner was again called she asked me if I expected to attend the noonday lecture on Christian Science to be given in our city that day. I attended the lecture, with due preparation, and as I listened I knew it was the truth I was hearing. I knew that I could prove it. I saw man made in God's image and likeness, and was grateful. When I returned home my daughter met me joyfully exclaiming, "Oh, mother dear, the blisters are all gone!" She returned to school the second day following, healed of the difficulty. Her realization of the healing power of Christian Science was evidenced by marked improvement in obedience and in progress in her school work.

For the wise provision of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church made by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for this experience, and for the many blessings received through the study and application of Christian Science I am deeply grateful. Admission to membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and class instruction by a loyal teacher added a greater incentive to study the Bible and the works of our Leader.—
