In the year 1919 I was led to take up the study of Christian Science, that I might receive help out of a condition concerning other persons besides myself. While studying the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, together with the Bible, and waiting on God to bring me relief, I had three physical healings, as my early proofs of the truth and power of Christian Science.
The first came when I had been studying about three weeks. I was suffering from an abscessed tooth, in a very painful form. It was necessary, I thought, to have the tooth extracted. I was alone, and it was nearly time for the dentist's office to close; so I called a friend to go with me as I felt very ill. She had to wait until one of her family came home before she could leave, so I decided to see if I could prove the truth for myself, since I knew of no practitioner. I began to read from Science and Health, and in less than thirty minutes I found myself walking the floor, no longer in pain, but singing from a hymn. I was free from pain, the soreness was gone, and the swelling had disappeared by the following morning.
I then began to apply the truth to constipation of years' standing. I had taken strong laxatives every night for a number of years, but there were no results from it, no matter how much medicine I took. I was completely healed when I realized what it means to rely radically on divine Love.
