Testimonies of Healing

I am indeed grateful for the abundance...

From the May 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am indeed grateful for the abundance of good that has always come to me, and for the love of our Father that has been expressed through guidance, protection, and supply. Christian Science was not studied for physical healing, for good health is one of the many blessings bestowed upon me. For some time, however, there had been dissatisfaction with the old religious thought, because it did not give me the demonstrable religion so sorely needed. Then, quite unexpectedly, while I was traveling in a foreign country, Christian Science was brought to my attention by a fellow traveler of another nationality. This generous-hearted student gave many valuable hours of her time to the answering of my questions. There was much that was not understood, and I seemed to be in a maze, not knowing what to believe. The textbook, ''Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, however, was purchased, also a Christian Science Quarterly, and the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons was commenced.

That was ten years ago. Since that time no medicine has been taken. Before I came into Christian Science the Bible was read at intervals from a sense of duty, because it was considered the right thing to do, and odd verses were found to be helpful; but no real pleasure was experienced in these readings. Now the Bible is indeed a revealed book, and it is read with understanding and joy.

We learn that distance plays no part in the demonstration of the power of God, and I should like to tell of a healing that proved this. While I was attending to a fire, a spark flew on the tip of my finger, giving momentary pain like a pin prick. The following day the tiniest blister appeared. This was forgotten, but later there was a soreness which gradually spread into an ugly discharging eruption, almost to the second joint of the finger. It was accompanied by swelling and a dull throbbing, and my sleep was disturbed. One morning, when a piece of fresh linen was being applied, fear crept in, for the condition appeared to be spreading rapidly. That afternoon a telegram was sent to a practitioner three hundred miles away, in another state, asking for help. That night the throbbing ceased, and although the next day the finger seemed to be worse, all fear had gone. The following day the discharge stopped and the swelling had vanished; then a new and healthy skin appeared. Though there was some tenderness the healing had taken place, proving that distance plays no part in the ever operative action of Truth. I was so thankful for this quick demonstration, and for the loving help of the practitioner.
