UNFOLDMENT

From the May 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT is possible to obtain divine guidance in rightly taking each advancing human footstep. It is possible to come close enough to the "still small voice" to hear it clearly and to know exactly what to do.

Man, in Science, is continuously directed by the divine Mind. The divine Mind can never be unmindful of its ideas or their needs; and this spiritual status is demonstrable in human affairs. Material sense testimony presents occurrences and conditions of a mythical nature, but the light of Truth can pierce the illusion and thus reveal the actual situation, which is spiritual. Christian Science practice utilizes true, spiritual qualities, which, as they are applied, accomplish the disintegration of this material myth or mist. As we keep the faith, the light of Truth revealing the nature of man's real selfhood becomes focused in the specific right idea which fulfills the specific human need. We must allow patience to "have her perfect work," so that the process of spiritual illumination may continue until the "spiritual and immortal forms of beauty and goodness," of which Mrs. Eddy speaks in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 503), appear.

Our mental work, which is undertaken in order that we may supplant the errors of belief with the ideas of spiritual understanding, follows the design of creation as presented in the first chapter of Genesis. Because of our acknowledgment of God as the only creator, light floods human consciousness; and thought thus illumined is given the understanding wherewith to divide the real from the unreal. Through this firmament of spiritual understanding we see the realm of Soul, entirely separate from the realm of matter, and witness the orderly appearing of the individual forms of Love's creating. And as thought ascends in thus viewing the beauties of creation, finally we shall behold man as the full image of God, the divine Father-Mother. And this man, being the reality of our own true being, is God-governed, and has dominion over all the earth. In this beholding shall we be satisfied, and rest in the vision of the perfection of God and man.
