With great gratitude and joy I wish to relate the blessings I have received in Christian Science.
Since childhood I had suffered from chronic constipation, together with many other evils, such as headaches, neuralgia, and nervousness. I had often been under medical treatment, which, it is true, had given me some relief and soothed me, but had not healed me. I began to turn away from medicine of my own free will; it was only now and again in seeming emergencies that I resorted to it. According to belief, I had to be careful, because the nerves of my stomach were weak.
My attention was called to Christian Science through a conversation. I attended the local Wednesday evening meetings and Sunday services, and, seeking a better understanding of the Scriptures, for which I had had great reverence even as a child, I found at the same time much satisfaction. The understanding gained by further attendance led me to place my confidence in the teachings of this Science, and I turned for help to some friends here who had been acquainted with Christian Science for some time. Later on I asked a practitioner who lived in another city for treatment, which was lovingly given. After I got the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was able to read it as I understood it. Error often made violent attacks and I still suffered desperate moments, but the thought that God is my Life often helped me; and the practitioner assisted me with great patience. Then I received a ray of light. Headaches, which prior to this had been continuous, disappeared, and by diligently studying the textbook and through the practitioner's work I was gradually freed from the evils mentioned above and from many other inharmonious conditions. Later on, Mrs. Eddy's words on page 495 of Science and Health, and her explanation of them, became clear to me, "God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God."
