Christian Science came into my experience over ten years ago as the answer to prayer. I had given up my former religion, having failed to find any satisfaction in it, but I had a deep and sincere desire to know the truth about God. Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 1), that "desire is prayer," and that the prayer of right desire is answered.
After spending an evening in the company of a student of Christian Science, who answered my many questions and arguments with much patience and gentleness, I felt that I must read the Christian Science textbook in order to learn something of this religion. I began to read the book, and shall always remember with gratitude the joy I experienced as the wonderful truth was revealed to me. I knew that I had found that for which I had been longing. Through the light of Christian Science I was able for the first time in my life to read the Bible with interest and enjoyment. I became so absorbed in this new study that my need for physical healing was put out of thought, and a few months afterward I discovered to my great surprise that I had been healed of heart disease, said to have been the result of an illness I had had in childhood. The healing had taken place imperceptibly, and without effort on my part. It must have been accomplished very quickly, because I do not remember having any symptoms of the trouble after taking up the study of Christian Science. In place of weakness and fear of exertion I was enjoying normal, healthy activity, and have continued to do so ever since.
This healing seemed very wonderful to me at the time, and I did not understand the simplicity of it; but now I know that it was just the natural result of the revelation of Truth to my consciousness. The truth had made me free. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for the understanding of God and man which the study of Christian Science has given me.
