For many years I suffered with diseased eyes. The most eminent eye specialists in this city not only failed to give any relief, but they also failed to agree on a diagnosis, finally dooming me to total blindness. During this entire period I suffered the most excruciating pain almost continuously. Lenses were changed with each change of doctor.
My wife, who for many years had used medical aid for a cure of sinus trouble, decided to call a Christian Science practitioner. The condition yielded in one treatment. Although this seemed to me a miracle, it was insufficient to cause me to turn to Christian Science for aid, because I had been reared in an orthodox Jewish home by very pious parents. I felt then I would rather endure blindness than turn to what I thought Christian Science stood for.
Although my wife studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, more than a year elapsed before I decided to read it. When I commenced to do so, I could not at first comprehend its contents; but as I continued my study, this healing message in the chapter on Prayer arrested my attention (p. 1): "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." Pondering this statement, I decided to test its value. Surely I desired above all else to be healed of my suffering and impending loss of sight. That very evening my glasses were shattered and I was healed. This demonstration took place six years ago.
