I wish to express my sincere gratitude for Christian Science, and for all the good that has come to me since I began to study the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. These two books, together with other writings by Mrs. Eddy and the authorized Christian Science literature, have been of untold benefit to me.
One thing that attracted me to Christian Science was the making of hymns practical in daily needs. The beautiful hymn which begins with the line, "In heavenly love abiding," was a source of comfort and inspiration before I really understood very much about Christian Science; and it led me to procure the textbook, the first reading of which cured me of frequent sick headaches, and demonstrated to me that "Truth has a healing effect, even when not fully understood" (Science and Health, p. 152).
I was subsequently healed of rheumatism which I had had once or twice a year since childhood; of an annoying, and many times painful case of eczema; also of a severe attack of neuritis. For all these healings I am truly grateful, as they are "the sign of Immanuel, or 'God with us,'" as Mrs. Eddy states in the Preface to Science and Health (p. xi), and as Christ Jesus said, "If I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you." To me this is a wonderful thought, that a Christian Science demonstration proves God's presence.
