Testimonies of Healing

From the June 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a deep sense of joy and gratitude that I desire to testify to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. For a number of years I had been groping in the dark, trying to find the path to health and happiness. I was suffering from a severe condition of nerves, with many attendant physical ailments; also depression, fear, and unrest. I scarcely knew what it was to feel well, strong, and at peace for many days together. Materia medica in various forms, including treatment from a specialist, was resorted to, but with no hope of ever obtaining permanent relief.

In 1910, while still in this depressed physical and mental state, I was attracted to the teachings of Christian Science. I procured a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and after a short perusal of the book I saw that the teachings of Christian Science presented a demonstrable religion that could be applied to every phase of human experience. While reading the chapter on Prayer I caught the first ray of hope which lifted my thought to the realization that there was a way out of the wilderness of doubt and despair. This first impression gave me an incentive to continue the study of the textbook, wherein I found that the promise "with God all things are possible" could be fulfilled through the right understanding and application of the laws of divine Principle.

The healing came gradually as I gained the right understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him. Hope, joy, and confidence began to take the place of depression. I realized how impossible it was for the image and likeness of God to be under the control of nerves or to be in bondage to fear; and permanent healing was experienced through the daily study and practice of the teachings of Christian Science. My experience in the application of it to the adjustment of human affairs has resulted in bringing about harmonious conditions in many ways. On one occasion a business difficulty, which had existed for a number of years, was entirely and completely healed. In these circumstances, misunderstanding and injustice were overcome through obedience to the true sense of government. Much patience had to be exercised and human planning abandoned before the complete demonstration was made.
