Christian Science was presented to us at a time when my physical fitness seemed to be lost forever. Owing to malarial and other fevers, my heart had become so weakened and affected that my physician sent me to the coast as soon as I was able to be moved. After spending four months and a half there under two doctors, one a specialist, I was no better, and things seemed very dark and hopeless. I was forbidden to return to Rhodesia on account of the altitude. It was at this time that Christian Science was presented to us by a casual acquaintance who had heard of my condition. She lent me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and asked me to read it; this I promised to do. The following day I told the specialist that I had decided to return to Rhodesia. He begged my wife to endeavor to keep me at the coast; but we had decided, and the following day we left without the least fear. During the three days' journey in the train I read some hundred pages of Science and Health, all of which seemed very wonderful, and I tried hard to grasp and apply its teachings. On our arrival in Rhodesia I felt no ill effects, and after a few days more of reading Science and Health, at his request I visited my former doctor, who, after a very thorough examination, declared me to be "sound as a bell" and said that my heart had moved into its right place and was functioning perfectly.
This healing I put down to the reading and studying of the first two hundred pages of Science and Health. It made us desire to know more of this great truth, and the searching and finding have been sweet, as we have been able to demonstrate the truth. With occasional help from loving practitioners, all kinds of problems, some small and some great, have been solved quickly and definitely through Christian Science. Our greatest joy now is in being able to help others.
Some four years ago, when my wife and I were walking on a footpath on the veld, our dog came across a puff adder and was bitten on the nose. The dog became affected immediately, but our combined application of the truth healed him of the very apparent effects of snake bite in a few hours.
