Testimonies of Healing

I have been helped so many times...

From the February 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have been helped so many times by the testimonies in the periodicals and during the Wednesday evening meetings that I wish to express my gratitude by bearing witness to a healing in my family. Our three-year-old son complained of earache, and even though I tried to know the truth for him, a few days later the side of his head near the ear became very much swollen. My husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, insisted that I take the child to a physician; so I took him to the one who had been present at his birth. This physician pronounced it a severe case of mastoiditis, and gave me the name of a specialist to take the child to, for an immediate operation. He warned me not to delay.

I took the boy to a Christian Science practitioner who has helped me many times, for I knew that God is the only Physician, and that in reality there is no need for any operation but that of divine Mind, which is continually operating. I kept in thought the fact of man's perfection, and held no fear, except a slight anxiety that members of the family might try to interfere with my reliance on what I knew to be the truth. The practitioner lovingly helped me to cast out even this, and I knew that the healing had begun. The next day the physical appearance tried to argue for surgical treatment, but this thought from the Bible, "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword," met the need, and the abscess began to discharge. This occurred while the child slept. Just previous to his retiring, when pain seemed intense, the words from our Leader's hymn (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 396; Poems p. 12),

"O'er waiting harpstrings of the mind
There sweeps a strain,
Low, sad, and sweet, whose measures
bind
The power of pain,"
