Testimonies of Healing

When Christian Science was introduced...

From the February 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Christian Science was introduced to me, my baby had been given up by doctors, who said that if he lived he would be a hopeless invalid, suffering from the effects of whooping cough and pneumonia, as well as stomach disorders. My own health had become so weakened that I was scarcely able to do my work. Two prominent surgeons of our city stated that my condition would not be healed even by an operation, which would merely relieve the condition temporarily.

In my discouragement I turned solely to God. While I was in this state of mind, a dear gentleman who was staying in our home, and who was a Christian Scientist, told me of God, of His infinite love and compassion for His own, and my baby was almost instantaneously healed. I procured the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and earnestly studied it; and in less than a year friends said I looked ten years younger. I have experienced many trials, financial losses, illnesses, sorrows, and fears, but with the loving help of Christian Science practitioners I have come through each one rejoicing to know that God is always ready to meet every need. During struggles with fear the words of Isaiah have sustained me: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee." When most discouraging trials were pressing upon me and life seemed only one heartache after another, the words of our dear Leader would give me courage to go on (Science and Health, p. 22): "Go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race. When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving. Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified." It is with much joy I am beginning to see the good that has been done, and am assuredly receiving the good I deserve; and I hope to live my gratitude through deeds of love, doing unto others as I would have them do unto me.

My heart goes out with love and gratitude to the practitioners who kept their lights trimmed and shining that they should see the way for me while I was yet in darkness. For all our churches and their activities, for the workers, for our literature, and for every avenue of righteousness that is bringing mankind closer to God, I am most grateful; also for class instruction from a loyal teacher, and for our Sunday schools, which are enabling the rising generation to be sincere, honest, and law-abiding. I am deeply grateful for our Wayshower, Christ Jesus, and our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—
