It was my privilege and joy to have Christian Science presented to me in 1917, when I was suffering both mentally and physically, and was greatly discouraged. At that time a member of my family called in a doctor, but I refused to take any medicine or to let him treat me. A few days later I became calm and more like myself, and went to see this doctor to pay him for his visit. When I told him how I was suffering from sorrow and different ailments he replied that he knew of no medicine that could help me, but added, "Why not try Christian Science?" I could not see what a religion had to do with my ailments, but he told me that he had Mrs. Eddy's book, Science and Health, and had found that it had helped others in my condition. I borrowed this book and had read for only a few hours when I was convinced that it was what I had been looking for, as it was revealing to me the truth about God and man. After reading the book through I was healed of taking medicine for any ailment. I began to trust God, read the book through again, and attended the church services. I was also given copies of the Journal and Sentinel.
Soon I had an opportunity to prove Christian Science, as I became ill with influenza. I did not do anything but read Science and Health, for I felt sure that God would heal me. After a week I decided that I had better get help and light as to how healing in Christian Science is effected; so I called on a practitioner and was instantly healed.
This experience gave me courage, and I have continued studying and applying this truth to every problem; and calling on a practitioner when I have needed help. Among other things, I have been healed of ptomaine poisoning, headaches, rheumatism, and great sorrow; also of the effects of being thrown and injured by a delivery truck.
