The testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel have filled such a need in our family that I realize one way to prove my gratitude for them is to send in my testimony. But when I sit down to recount all the blessings I have received in almost thirty years, they are more than can be numbered; and more than ever I realize what a place Christian Science has filled in my life. I was sent to a Christian Science Sunday School at a very early age and the truths learned there proved to be a great protection, for I never experienced any of the so-called diseases of childhood.
At the birth of our first baby the doctor and nurses told me that it would be impossible for me to nurse him. A Christian Science practitioner was asked to take up the work, and when the time came for the next feeding I asked that the baby be brought to me. All claims set down by the doctor were overcome, much to the astonishment of the nurses. When our second baby was about six weeks old we noticed that only one of his eyes was focusing. He seemed to have no control of the other eye. The doctor said it was either a hereditary condition or else a weakness of the muscles, and that the baby would have to wear glasses at an early age. My first thought was to have a practitioner handle the case, but I immediately realized that it was an opportunity for me to prove what God can do for us. For many months I did daily work for the little fellow, and I do not know when he was healed — I only know that today he has normal vision, for which my husband and I are deeply grateful.
About two years ago an epidemic broke out in the college in which my husband was a professor. About ten days later the baby woke one night crying hard, and with a very high temperature. We also noticed that he seemed in great pain and could not swallow. We put in a long-distance call to a practitioner, and in less than two hours the child was sleeping soundly, and all evidence of the trouble had disappeared.
