PATHS

From the May 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It's one step at a time that makes a path
By constant, following feet,
Over and over a beaten trail
To upland pastures — sweet.

It's one thought at a time that makes a way
In consciousness appear;
Over and over our mental trail
Goes love, or hate, or fear.

One thought at a time! Dear God, forbid
False pride, or greed, or lust,
Like chaff from threshing floor, to flood
Our mental homes with dust.

Above the mist, Love's tenderness
Lifts thought to concept clear —
He leadeth me. Oh, blessed words!
Our help is now and here.

With Him! — the path, just at our feet!
Thoughts winged with power are given;
He leads in paths of righteousness,
For His name's sake — to heaven.
