For the life and work of our revered Leader I am humbly grateful. Science and Health is indeed the "key" that unlocks the sacred truths of the Bible to all who diligently seek for them.
Reared in a Christian atmosphere, I attended Sunday school from a very early age, and became a member of an orthodox church, a teacher in the Sunday school, and an active church worker. For many years I had had a great desire to know the Bible, and had tried hard to study and understand it. Becoming dissatisfied with the doctrine of the church with which I was affiliated, I was constantly longing for a better understanding of God. At that time I was living in a small town where there were no Christian Scientists, and I had never heard of it or of Mrs. Eddy. My great desire was to find a more satisfying religion, so I began studying and investigating the various religions of the world, and the lives of the great teachers who founded them.
During these years I met several joyous Christian Scientists, who told me of their healings; and I gladly accepted an invitation to attend their church services. One day I was led to go to a Christian Science Reading Room. I bought a copy of the textbook, and left the room with a sense of peace.
