Testimonies of Healing

I have been reading with joy and...

From the June 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have been reading with joy and thankfulness the many helpful testimonies of healing through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science. I have also been rejoicing with all the writers in the freedom from sin and sickness which this truth brings; and yet I have never before sent my testimony of that same healing power, which came into our home twenty years ago.

We knew little of Christian Science at that time, so that when we were awakened one night to find our three-year-old baby in convulsions, we were so full of fear that we sent for a doctor. This trouble developed into measles, quickly followed by pneumonia and meningitis. Days of anguish and darkness passed. Nurses, doctors, medicine, anxiety, and fear seemed to take charge of our home. The doctors' verdict was that if the baby recovered he would be mentally deficient, and that it was best to let him go. There came a morning when visibly the little son was passing from us; the medical opinion was that he would not last more than an hour or two, and that there was nothing on earth that could save him. It was then that our thoughts flew to what we knew of Christian Science and the healings that had taken place. Quickly we got in touch with a practitioner. God bless her always, for she came, early as it was, and with her came a sense of peace and assurance to our troubled hearts, as she took her place by the baby's cot. materia medica was dispensed with.

Then began a time of peace and blessedness and rejoicing, as the work of healing went on. Gradually our trust was strengthened, and our fears calmed, as during the day the baby, who had been unconscious for days, woke to smile and recognize us. O blessed truth that drives away the despair and darkness of dreams and brings in the light! For days work was continued, and so clear, pure, and scientific was the loving thought of the practitioner that there was practically no convalescence. Unbelievable as it seems, in three days the baby was sitting in his chair endeavoring to feed himself. He is now twenty-three years old, healthy and strong, with a clear mentality which enabled him to pass all school examinations, and he is now at work orcharding.
