Testimonies of Healing

I am indeed grateful for the opportunity...

From the September 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am indeed grateful for the opportunity to glorify God by adding my testimony to the growing list of those who have been healed through Christian Science. My first healing was that of a fibroid tumor and internal hemorrhages. I was bedridden for almost a year, and previous to this had not been considered very strong or well. Many physicians had been sought out, and after all medical aid had been exhausted the verdict was voiced to my husband that I had only a very short time to live, and that although an operation might be performed, no promise could be given that I would survive it. He was grief-stricken, and asked me if I would try Christian Science, as that seemed to be all that was left for me. We did not know what Christian Science was, but had heard of it through a neighbor. My husband told me if I would study it, he would join me, which he did; and we thank God for this blessed privilege given us.

A neighbor was consulted in regard to Christian Science and she, with a friend who was also a student of Science, came and read to me. I was healed by absent treatment through the prayerful efforts of a practitioner. How grateful we should be for these faithful servants, who are always willing and ready to help us! The third day I arose from my bed unassisted, dressed myself, walked out to the table, and had my first full meal for months with my husband and the nurse, who had been with me almost constantly for six months. Up to this time I had been held under a rigid diet, but I declared I would eat what the rest ate and did so, experiencing no discomfort from it as I had previously. The nurse was greatly amazed at my rising, as I had seemed to be so helpless and had needed her assistance constantly. The statement from an article in a Christian Science Sentinel, "God is your strength," stayed with me, and I actually felt my strength returning. The desire to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," meant more to me than a meal. I hungered and thirsted for the truth. The nurse remained with me for a time and was blessed through reading the book. When our son had left home to enlist in the World War, he had said he had little hope of seeing me on his return, and friends had not been allowed to see me. When he returned, to his amazement I met him at the door. It was great cause for rejoicing and thanksgiving. God is indeed rich in His mercy to His children.

Christian Science is the voice of God in this age, speaking to all humanity, and will support and sustain all who accept its teaching. The writings of our beloved Leader are our constant companions; and may her name be called blessed for this wonderful revelation given to the world. I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a society, and for class instruction; my desire is to prove my sincere gratitude for all that God has done for me and mine by being a loyal worker in His vineyard, for the sake of humanity. The periodicals, including that wonderful paper, The Christian Science Monitor, have brought added joy and peace into our home.—
