Several years ago our daughter, then a little girl, asked her mother, "Can we not go to Auntie's church?" Lovingly it was arranged and they went. A few weeks later an opportunity was again given, and I also went to hear a Sunday service in a Christian Science church. Not long afterwards, we had to prove Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 66,) "Trials are proofs of God's care." Our little girl was taken ill and a doctor diagnosed the case as pneumonia. The doctor was dismissed, a Christian Science practitioner took up work, and the child was healed. The seed was sown, the light had broken forth, and to me the words, "And a little child shall lead them," had a new meaning. In the Scriptures we learn that we cannot serve God and mammon. In Christian Science we found we could not serve two masters, the Christ, Truth, and the beliefs of the carnal mind. The truth stated in the Bible and Science and Health has been our only medicine ever since.
I have seen many other healings in our home, such as of nosebleed, headaches, and inflammatory rheumatism. Through every one of those stumbling blocks a greater spiritual understanding and a greater love have made their appearance.
I wish to express my gratitude for the words from the poem "Christ and Christmas" by our beloved Leader:
