Two years ago, during a splendid northern winter, I was unfortunate enough to break my leg while skiing and was obliged to stay indoors for five weeks, part of the time in bed, as a result of which I got a thrombus in my lung. At this same time my husband passed on, and I was overwhelmed with depression. Christian Science was then presented to me. A Scientist from Sweden came to see me when my need was greatest and with selfless sympathy and joy told me about God's great love. However, there was a return of the trouble and I was taken to the hospital with a thrombus in the left leg, and after a few weeks one came in the other leg. I lay in the hospital for months in a state of despair, waiting and hoping for death. A copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was sent to me in the hospital, and I studied it, but at first it was difficult to understand. A local practitioner came to the hospital to see me and took up work for me. Through her tender, untiring, and loving Christian Science work I gradually recovered physically and mentally. My despair was changed into joy and glad activity, indoors and out.
As I began to understand the textbook better through reading and the practitioner's help, everything went more harmoniously at home, and financial troubles were overcome. I have also had help for my son in various illnesses.
I am immeasurably grateful to God for the blessings we have received through Christian Science, for the practitioner's work, and for the splendid literature which is at our disposal, through which I have gained a deeper understanding of the Master's deeds.
