It is recorded in the twentieth chapter of II Chronicles that as King Jehoshaphat stood in the house of the Lord still fearing the armies of the children of Moab and Ammon, Jahaziel, the son of Zechariah, prophesied, saying, "Set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord ... fear not, nor be dismayed; ... for the Lord will be with you."
How often, under the stress of trying circumstances, are we tempted by the error of fear to turn and flee from our problems, or feel the urge to seek some new field of endeavor, where, it is argued, the problems will be more easily met or our future freedom from such experiences will be assured! The command given in the foregoing incident was in part, "Set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord." But this command means little to those who know nothing of God or the right way in which to seek and find Him. It is at this point that the teachings of Christian Science offer the sovereign panacea, for from them we learn that God is good, that He is the knowable, demonstrable, governing Principle or Mind; that He constitutes all-presence, all-power, all-intelligence, and not only forms but controls all that really exists.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says on page 275 of Science and Health, "The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle." And on page 492 she further states, "God is Mind, and God is infinite; hence all is Mind." It is upon such definite and inspired statements that the foundations for the teachings of Christian Science are laid, and from them we learn that cause and effect are mental, not physical.
