Testimonies of Healing

Like many others, I came to...

From the July 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Like many others, I came to Christian Science as a last resort. I was suffering from indigestion, constipation, and a skin disease called acne; and I had exhausted the means of materia medica, after years of various treatments. My healing came slowly and gradually through Science, and I am grateful that many faults of character were overcome during the process.

I had been a student of Christian Science for about a year when I had a severe attack of asthma. I had been subject to this disease in a mild form since childhood, but as I grew older the attacks became more severe. I asked for help from a practitioner, and at about midnight of the second day I grew worse and suffered so intensely that my faith began to waver and I contemplated calling a physician. However, I remembered that materia medica had not helped me and I determined to hold to Science. The practitioner was informed of my acute condition and in a few minutes the discomfort had greatly diminished and I slept. In a few days I was completely healed. I shall never cease to be grateful that I took my stand for Christian Science, even when danger of passing on seemed imminent.

The smoking habit, to which I had been addicted for eight years, dropped from me without specific treatment or any special effort on my part to overcome it. I am just now beginning to realize the value of the trials through which I have passed since I took up the study of Christian Science about five years ago. They have caused me to turn more wholeheartedly to Truth and to practice more faithfully the precepts of Christian Science, which have brought me great blessings. Indeed, I have learned something of the meaning of Mrs. Eddy's statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 296) that "progress is born of experience."
