I want to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have had since taking up the study of Christian Science. Though I have had many difficulties to overcome, I have always had the encouragement and help of loving friends and practitioners in solving these problems, whenever my own understanding seemed insufficient to meet the demand.
One of the many beautiful experiences I have had is the healing of gallstone. I was not in the least aware of this trouble until I suddenly experienced severe pains in the abdomen. A few days passed, and then I decided to get the help of a practitioner, who promptly and lovingly responded. No medicine or other material remedy was used, but in about a week's time the operation of divine Mind alone uncovered the error and completed the healing.
Another experience which stands out clearly in my thought is the healing of two corns between the toes. One afternoon a friend invited me to go for a walk. I dreaded the thought of the pain I should have to endure in putting on heavy overshoes, but I nevertheless accepted her invitation. When we had walked a little way I begged to return, and told her why. I shall never forget the look of tenderness and love in her eyes as she said, on parting, "When you have removed those shoes, will you try to realize that God never made those corns, and that you, being His perfect child, cannot have anything to pain or make you unhappy." As she turned away I began to wonder what it was that really did the healing; and was this expression of love, so visible in her whole manner, due to the fact that she had caught a glimpse of the Christ, Truth, which heals? I was but a young student then. Busy with these thoughts, I walked the pavement several times before going into the house; then I removed my coat and rubber shoes only, keeping on my shoes until bedtime. Not once did I think of the pain, and not until the next morning did I remember my friend's parting request, and realize that I had had no pain since; and when I looked at the spot there was not a vestige of the corns left. It is now over ten years since this occurred, and they have never returned. Only those who have suffered the inconvenience and pain of this difficulty can realize my joy and gratitude for entire freedom from it.
