Nineteen years ago I took up the study of Christian Science, and since that time we have had many proofs of the healing power of God. We have three sons, who have attended a Christian Science Sunday School since they were about four years old. In our family we have had many healings, including those of blood poisoning, athletic foot, abscessed tooth, scarlet fever, chicken pox, boils, sties, ear trouble, colds, and a large abscess on the neck which opened up by itself and drained. One of our sons broke an arm; we had it set by a physician, and then a practitioner treated him; and at no time did he have any pain or discomfort.
My husband was healed of periodic sore throat. My father-in-law was cured of a disease because of which his limbs were swollen and he could hardly breathe. He was also cured of a crippled condition after many doctors had pronounced it incurable. The last doctor who treated him said the only thing that would do him any good was Christian Science. He had spent many days in a hospital, and the doctors tried baking his leg and then operating on it without successful results. He was healed in a short time by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and studying in the Christian Science Reading Rooms. He was able to go back to his work, at which he was required to stand all day. Also he was able to read without his glasses, which he had worn most of his life. Another cure he had was of chronic indigestion, after he had tried different medicines without results. Whenever he felt an attack coming on he would realize that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494), and immediately he would be relieved. He is seventy-six years old and very active.
Christian Science has given me a great sense of peace. There were times when things looked so dark that I do not know what I should have done without the help of a practitioner. I was healed of grief when a sister passed on.
