So much joy and freedom is pouring into my life year by year through my effort to live Christian Science that I want to testify to its healing power in a way which may help others.
Many times I have found that a careful and consecrated study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly has uncovered and destroyed error. An experience several months ago clearly illustrated this. Returning home from a concert one evening, I discovered that I had a rash on my body. I did some mental work and went to bed. Chills and fever during the night left me little peace, and at six o'clock I turned on my light, took the Bible, Science and Health, and the Quarterly, and began to read the Lesson for that week, the subject of which was "Love." The second section contained Paul's words to the Romans, "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."
I felt sure that healing would follow the application of that rule. As I searched my consciousness for the offending error, my thought turned to a man of whom I had strongly disapproved. I was so happy to have this uncovered to me that I began joyfully and vigorously to deny the unlovely traits which seemed to characterize and motivate him, and began, instead, to "mark the perfect man." Then I fell asleep and awoke after about two hours to find that the rash had disappeared, and during the day my normal strength and well-being completely returned.
