Speaking generally, it would be held by most persons that activity is normal, and that everyone must do the necessary work before he can enjoy the fruit of his labors. Jesus, when a boy, spoke of being about his Father's business; and Christian Science, in its insistence upon the one Mind, teaches that there can be but one all-inclusive activity—the activity of good—since there is but one God. When, therefore, we realize that we can only reflect the wisdom and power of the Almighty, we joyfully go forward, knowing that all real activity emanates from God, and must prevail. Therefore, as everything is dependent upon thought, it behooves all to give primal consideration to mental processes.
When Elijah, the prophet, stood upon Mount Horeb, God's voice was heard, not in the rending wind, nor in the mighty earthquake, nor in a fierce, consuming fire, but in the "still small voice" speaking to the consciousness of the prophet ready to receive God's commands. Thus Elijah was enabled to rise above the deep depression that had been holding him in bondage. He became once more a man of action in the service of his Lord and went forward full of courage to resume his rightful work in the ranks of the prophets. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 89) Mrs. Eddy has said, "Spirit, God, is heard when the senses are silent;" and it is the joyful privilege of all her followers to hear the voice of God and thereby demonstrate the truth contained in her teachings.
When the false sense of activity is stilled, and we are willing gratefully and humbly to acknowledge divine Mind as the source of all true activity, then, indeed, we are assured of success in all our undertakings, for God directs our path. There can be no uncertainty or failure, for all true action is God-bestowed and God-directed. Thus will all personal pride in our efforts be eliminated, for we shall be ever conscious that the spiritual energy which we are manifesting is a reflection of God.
