A Subject that seems to occupy human thought most persistently is that of the weather and the conditions pertaining to it. Usually, discussions of this type are based mainly on the belief that the weather is a material state over which humanity has no control; that, good or bad, both it and its effects are ordained of God, and that men must submit to its conditions, no matter what form they may take or how discordant they may be. A severe storm on either land or sea is sometimes spoken of, and in some cases written down, as an "act of God," and mankind meekly submits to that which it imagines to be inevitable.
Through the study of Christian Science, however, an increasing host is becoming aware of the fact that man is not at the mercy of material conditions, and that in his real being, as a son of God, he reflects and manifests true dominion. To the extent that his spiritual understanding develops, each individual may enjoy in his own experience the fruits of his scientifically Christian thinking, seeing it made manifest in harmony and unobstructed freedom in all human experience, including freedom from hardships engendered by inclement weather.
On page 484 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says: "The physical universe expresses the conscious and unconscious thoughts of mortals. Physical force and mortal mind are one." And on page 427 she says, "Immortal Mind, governing all, must be acknowledged as supreme in the physical realm so-called, as well as in the spiritual." As these facts become more thoroughly understood, mankind will be able to demonstrate more and more definitely dominion over the discordant elements of mortal mind objectified as storm, tornado, torrid heat, or bitter cold. In the spiritual, real universe, there is no matter; therefore no destructive heat, bitter wind, or freezing cruelty; no extreme heat or cold, but only the tender warmth and loving gentleness of Love reflected in love. The realization of Mind's supremacy must ultimately be manifested in human experience in a more nearly temperate and normal atmosphere, wherein is no discomfort, and where the loveliness of God's radiant presence is increasingly felt. Thus the individual whose thought is at one with tender, sustaining Love will find that as he scientifically realizes the truth about that which is termed the atmosphere, he will not be disturbed or inconvenienced by any phase that material atmosphere may present. Indeed, his right and true thinking will be adding to the sum total of righteous endeavor whereby the impetus of Mind's holy power is becoming increasingly demonstrated.
