Testimonies of Healing

In gratitude for the guiding power...

From the March 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In gratitude for the guiding power of Truth as manifested in my school and business experience, I wish to give this testimony. I have had the wonderful privilege of being brought up in Christian Science, and regard this as the biggest blessing of my life. Although for a time in high school I neither studied Science nor used my understanding of it, yet the truths so strongly adhered to by my mother were an ever-present protection, and I turned to her understanding for healings. When I went a long distance away to college I found I needed understanding of my own, and so turned ardently to the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly.

I should like to relate an instance which occurred at that time in my psychology class. I received poor marks throughout the semester in this subject, because I did not, and could not, agree with the teachings. When the time came for the final examination, I found that it was necessary to make a good mark so as to make a passing average. I studied the subject for only three quarters of an hour, and then in sincerity turned to God, and the Bible and Science and Health. I saw, then, that my need was to express intelligence—not to agree or disagree with the subject of psychology. I realized that clear thinking is the result of understanding divine Mind. I worked in Science for over an hour, and the next morning on the way to class, I steadfastly affirmed the truth. A week later, when I received my examination results, the professor told me that I was sixth highest in the class—and the class had two hundred students. I was, indeed, very grateful for this.

I was led very naturally and beautifully to the choosing of a profession. After my graduation, with mortal mind claiming depression and unemployment, I was able, through the application of Christian Science, to find a position, one encouraging and stimulating growth in, and use of, Christian Science. For this I was very grateful.
