More than twenty years ago I was asked by a relative to look into Christian Science for a much-loved son who had been afflicted from birth, but I was loath to believe that this teaching could do what physicians had failed to do. A little later our daughter became ill. We again resorted to doctors, and for two years we were in seeming darkness. Our daughter then decided to have Christian Science treatment, after which I saw her restored to health. I am deeply grateful for this healing, which led me to take up the study of this Science.
As I have learned to understand God more fully, I have been richly blessed. Six years ago I was having repeated attacks of acute internal pains, a condition which was very distressing for my family to witness. My husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, called a doctor, who advised my removal to hospital for an operation for gallstones. But right there I knew that "God is no respecter of persons," and that what He had done for us once He would do again. All through the night the verses from Jeremiah 39:17, 18 were held to, and by morning I was free from the agonizing pains. Exhaustion seemed to lay hold on me for a while, but with loving and faithful work from practitioners, and a friend who encouraged me to hold fast to this truth in spite of all material sense testimony, I was healed. I express my heartfelt thanks. Many times Mrs. Eddy's words from Science and Health came to me (pp. 433, 434), "Ah! but Christ, Truth, the spirit of Life and the friend of Mortal Man, can open wide those prison doors and set the captive free." I realize and acknowledge that freedom. These healings have been permanent.
My gratitude goes out to God for His loving care; to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the revelation of this truth; for The Christian Science Board of Directors; for class instruction, which is indeed a "lamp unto my feet;" and for all our literature.—Bradford, Yorkshire, England.
