We read in Psalm 127: "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." Like countless others, I am rebuilding my house, or concept of life, on the firm foundation of God's law of good, as taught in Christian Science, thus finding health, security, and abundance.
Seven years ago the so-called depression swept away our home, our savings, and, as we thought, our means of earning a living. A false sense of responsibility, worry, fear, and resentment resulted in the loss of my health. A doctor was giving me medical treatment for what he pronounced a serious internal ailment, until such time as I could afford a surgical operation.
I was led to call upon a Christian Science practitioner, not for physical healing, but to gain some knowledge of God which would bring peace to my perplexities. Under the guidance of this consecrated worker, the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was begun. Drinking in the healing truths thirstily, I quite forgot about my health for weeks. Alone one evening, however, I suddenly remembered the doctor's warning of the disastrous results of neglecting his treatments. Not knowing how to protect myself against the fearful thoughts that assailed me, the worst symptoms of my illness reappeared within a few hours. I had told the Christian Science practitioner nothing about the state of my health, for up to this time I had been in doubt concerning the power of Mind to heal physical disorders. I shall be everlastingly grateful that instead of following my first impulse to call the doctor, I telephoned the Christian Science practitioner instead, and thankfully accepted absent treatment. I slept peacefully through the night, and upon waking, felt so well that I sprang out of bed, dressed, and attended to all my household duties without fatigue, and with a sense of freedom and joyousness I had not known in years. This complete healing has been permanent, making it possible for me to do any amount of work which I have been called on to do.
