For the benefit of anyone who is looking for eternal life, wondering if he has found the way in Christian Science, I should like to relate the experiences of our family in finding the truth.
More than twenty-five years ago the physicians gave my mother six months to live. Turning to all manner of temporal means for relief, including numerous operations, she was like the woman in Jesus' time, who "had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any." All this while it was felt that there was a higher and more dependable source of being. Later a friend lent her a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but after a casual perusal of it she returned it with gratitude, and at the time would not admit that it had helped her. She continued to seek healing, but now it was in the mental realm. Returning to Christian Science a short time later, she began earnestly to study the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, and gradually but surely the light of Truth began to grow brighter and brighter, and when it was revealed to her that this was the truth for which she had been searching, she was restored to health. Some obstacles were overcome through her own understanding of God's Word, and others with the help of loving practitioners.
Her healing alone would be sufficient cause for gratitude and rejoicing in recognition of what Christian Science has done for us. But there came a time when I, too, required the one thing needful. I had been a member of an orthodox church, yet, until I became a student of Christian Science, I did not realize that God is divine Principle, who can be relied upon in times of stress. Five years ago I applied my knowledge of this Science when I needed remunerative employment. I answered an advertisement in The Christian Science Monitor, and was able to take a position in a distant city with confidence and assurance, although I had not been trained for that type of work. I am especially grateful for the protection and guidance that have been mine.
