"WHITHER shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there" (Psalms 139:7, 8). Whoever penned these words had more than glimpsed the truth of God's allness. Wonderful it is that such absolute spiritual truth should be found recorded for us in the Hebrew Scriptures! Possibly the full import of the words was only partially realized by the Psalmist himself; nevertheless, they have remained throughout the centuries, urging men to the contemplation of God as omnipresent, inviting them to put their trust in Him, and serving to turn them away from belief in any other power.
Christian Science acknowledges and emphasizes the fact of Spirit's allness. It declares that God is infinite, and, therefore, that He is omnipresent—everywhere present. Moreover, since God, Spirit, is Mind, and since He expresses Himself in spiritual ideas, His infinite creation of ideas is likewise omnipresent. This is equivalent to saying that God, Spirit, is everywhere perfectly expressed in His spiritual universe of ideas.
Since God and His universe of ideas are omnipresent; since God and His ideas fill all space, there can be nothing else present anywhere. This is tantamount to saying that in reality there is no material creation, no matter. Indeed, how could anything the opposite in nature to infinite Spirit be brought into existence, since God could not create anything unlike Himself? And so, Christian Science substantiates the Psalmist's words, giving them added weight through the understanding which it brings of God's nature and that of His creation.
