COUNSEL in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out," we read in Proverbs. Spiritual understanding is not motionless, it is forever active; it is the continuous manifestation of divine power. In practical application it is the foundation, the cornerstone of man's relationship to God.
However profoundly the individual may ponder on what he believes to be the nature of God and the divine purpose; however faithful and skillful a builder he may be with the materials at his command, without a definite plan, without positive directions, he is handicapped and often misdirected. But equipped with understanding, he not only knows what he is building, but also the form and outline it must take.
In the measure that understanding replaces mere belief, not only does the individual discern what it is to apprehend God as Spirit; he knows also that man is spiritual.
