DEMONSTRATING SPIRITUAL TRUTH

From the September 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A MOST important fact is that the teachings of Christian Science are demonstrable, provable. Based as they are on the truth revealed by Christ Jesus, these teachings bear testimony to the promise he set forth, namely, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also," and substantiate his injunction "to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick."

Christian Scientists are striving to obey the Master's command, and are accomplishing works of healing and regeneration commensurate with their individual spiritual understanding. While humbly acknowledging that much more can be done, they are not dismayed; they are consecrating their thought and purpose, and are preparing prayerfully for the doing of the "greater works than these," of which Christ Jesus spoke. They recognize that the purest consecration and the most careful spiritual preparation are necessary for full demonstration.

Demonstration of spiritual truth is a holy thing, being impelled and sustained by God. It is the result of the irresistible activity of unfolding good, the expression of omniactive Mind, forever manifesting itself in spiritual ideas. Since man is the infinite idea of Mind, and includes by reflection all right ideas, he is continuously expressing these ideas. This is his natural function as Mind's creation. Christian Science teaches that "creation consists of the unfolding of spiritual ideas and their identities, which are embraced in the infinite Mind and forever reflected" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 502, 503).
