Testimonies of Healing

Mere words could never express...

From the September 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mere words could never express my gratitude for Christian Science, because all the good that is in my life today I owe directly to this Science. When it first came to me. over three years ago, I was in about as bad a condition as a human being could be. Since childhood, I had frequently had to turn to doctors, and for eight years had been under a doctor's care almost continually.

When Christian Science first came to my attention, I was in bed with a nervous breakdown and four other diseases, one of which was a severe form of kidney trouble. I can never express enough gratitude to the practitioner who has helped me from the beginning, because during the first three months that I read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I did not understand it. I would talk with the practitioner several times each day on the telephone, and I have always had a feeling that if it had not been for her untiring, unselfish, and loving encouragement, understanding, and help during this most trying time, I should have lost my way entirely.

I have had so many healings during the past three years that it would be impossible to relate them all. Among them have been healings of a severe form of nervous trouble, kidney trouble, sinus trouble, asthma, influenza, fainting spells, heart trouble, acute indigestion, inharmonious home conditions, and many fears. My life today is indeed a contrast to what it was before Christian Science came to me, for when I was very sick I sometimes wondered at night where I was going to find the courage to face the next day; now I face each day with joy and confidence. I am also learning to think in terms of Principle instead of person. Mrs. Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 117): "'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God' (St. John). This great truth of God's impersonality and individuality and of man in His image and likeness, individual, but not personal, is the foundation of Christian Science."
