I have long wished to express...

From the May 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have long wished to express gratitude for many blessings resulting from the study of Christian Science.

To human sense I traveled an unhappy and painful pathway for many years. Three major operations and two nervous breakdowns followed each other in quick succession. Constant dieting, exercising, and medicines were the order of the day. I well remember the day when, walking along the shore of a little seaside resort in New Zealand, while I was recuperating from the third operation, I decided to give up my home and friends and leave the business with which I had been connected for fifteen years. I felt there must be some better view of existence than the material. Within ten days of this decision I set sail for England. Upon receiving my resignation from the retail staff, the directors offered me the position of buyer for the company once I reached London. This I accepted, and commenced the new work immediately upon my arrival here.

One day I met a friend who brought me to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting at a Christian Science church.
