In times of discord, upheaval, and apprehension such as we are at present experiencing, Christian Science comes to pilot us through every danger and difficulty, showing us how to think rightly, whatever the material conditions may be.
Recently I had occasion to be on the high seas when we were confronted by grave danger from submarines, a ship being torpedoed within a few hundred yards of us.
During the whole of that day I repeated to myself the ninety-first Psalm, particularly the passage which reads, "A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." During the early part of the afternoon I was looking out of my cabin window, still repeating these words, when I saw a torpedo miss us by a few feet. I did not experience any fear at the time, but gratefully rejoiced to know that those words were as true today as when they were written, centuries ago. At once we were all summoned to the lifeboats, and we wore our lifebelts in readiness during the remainder of the day and the night that followed.
