Testimonies of Healing

I feel that I have up to now neglected...

From the April 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I feel that I have up to now neglected a great privilege, that of an open acknowledgment of gratitude to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, for the many years of blessings and protection that Christian Science has afforded me, and gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church.

I became interested in Christian Science many years ago through a friend, who had been healed of a number of serious ailments. She gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and asked me to read it. Science and Health seemed to turn my world upside down, and I had many battles with my own sense of things before I could grasp something of the divine Principle that it revealed. Then I came to the place where I could see that if there is a perfect God there must be a perfect creation. I, however, seemed to be anything but perfect—sickness, lack, and other discords being apparent—and I could not understand how this perfect Principle could operate for me if God knew nothing unlike His own creation. I stood on that corner for a long time.

One day in my study of the textbook I reread the definition of "Christ" (Science and Health, p. 583): "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." This dispelled the dark cloud, and through the reading of Science and Health I was completely healed of fibroid tumors, for which I had undergone three operations. During a period of over twenty-nine years there has been no return of any of the symptoms.
