THE KINGDOM WITHIN

From the January 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The attainment to "the kingdom of God," which Jesus said "is within you," has always been the goal of Christianity. But the nature and location of this kingdom have been subjects of mere aspiration or speculation by those who looked for it elsewhere, because they have not understood the teachings of Jesus. He gave the world a practical religion—gave us the truth that God is Spirit, and that man and the universe are His creation. Therefore they are both divinely mental. This being true, the nature of existence is of necessity spiritual.

This "kingdom of God," or of spiritual dominion, is enfolded in divine Mind and unfolded in Mind's expression, man. Jesus illustrated this unfoldment in the parable of the mustard seed. Although the smallest of seeds, given soil it begins to expand. The potentialities of the plant are enfolded in the seed and unfolded in the development of the full-grown tree, under whose shelter birds come to rest.

Prayerful study of Jesus' teachings and proofs led Mary Baker Eddy to the discovery of the spiritual and practical meaning of his words. She has given this meaning and its power to the world so that all who will may understand. What she has given mankind furnishes a new outlook, new hope, new views of our relationships with others, new ideals and aspirations which lift us out of human limitations. Her teaching assures us that this spiritual realm is not entered through death, but is the reign of divine Science, the systematized knowledge of infinite Truth, the attainment of which is a present possibility.
